อีกค่าหนึ่งบอกว่า ไม่ต้องรอเป็นหรือพร้อม 100% หรอก 20 – 30% ก็ลงมือทำเถอะ มัวแต่ตั้งท่าซ้อมอยู่นั่น แก่ตายพอดี ไม่ต้องได้ทำกัน

ผมว่า มันก็ถูกทั้งคู่แหละ ขึ้นกับว่าเราจะทำอะไร …

จะผ่าตัดสมองคน ก็ต้องซ้อมรอให้พร้อม แต่กรณีผมทำคลิปนี่ ผมว่าแบบหลังก็โออยู่ ทำไป หัดไป สนุก มีความสุข กับมันไป เดี๋ยวก็เป็นไปเอง 555

Good morning. Today we are going to introduce you a piece of important equipment indrilling a petroleum well.

It is the drill bit. There are 2 major types of drill bit, which are roller cone bit or we may call rock bit or somebody may call tricone bit, 3 names.

The other is fixed cutter bit. Here is how it looks and this piece is a model.
It is made of sponge.

We have to select one type because it will be too long if we talk 2 types in one clip We choose roller bit. So, we park this one (fixed cutter bit) for now.

OK. Let’s start, This is a roller cone bit. In a moment we will tell you what it consists of Let’s start from the bottom, It is called “pin”.

Pin is simply a thread. A male thread, which is used to connect to drill pipe or BHA (Bottom Hole Assembly) This is how it looks like. This one is too heavy to lift and it is thread protector covering.

We can remove it but it may cause accident dropping on my foot. Pin is simply a male thread. At this end, it actually has a hole to a allow mud to flow through. This part is usually has part number, serial number , model number stamped. similart to Chassie that has brand, model part number, serial number, body number.

Sometimes, some manufacturer stamps (those numbers) on the side but if they do the problem is, in long run, it fades away and invisible. If they are stamped around here because it is always inside. It isn’t rubbed and faded.
always visible. The next part is called shank, which is the body. You can see it has 3 pieces with cones.

They are the important parts, may be the most important (of the bit)

(the bit) drills fast or slow because of these parts. They are called cones or sometimes called cutters. There are 2 types One type, we call insert bit which this part is a piece of cone shaped metal with abrasive and impact resistant material insert in the cone shaped metal. so, they act like teeth that drill rock.

The other type is the cone body itself forms teeth shape which makes cone and teeth one single piece, cone and teeth are make from a single piece of steel.

We call it mill tooth bit. Rock bit and mill tooth bit have different application. Briefly, we use mill tooth bit to drill not so hard formation.

For harder formation, we use insert bit. The part we will talk about is bearing. We can see cones are rotatable. They can rotate. While drilling, the body rotation makes cones rotate along like this, that means there are baering in side this part.

We have a little hole let’s turn it a bit for better view now you can see a hole
to pump grease to lubricate bearing inside.

Next, uhm … what else we should talk about. Oh we see another hole. there is a hole here. There are 3 holes. This is one. The other one is at the opposite side. and the last one is on the other side. Thses holes are called “nozzle”. They are there to allow mud to to flow out (of the bit) to cool the bit and move up cutting up to surface.

what else we should know about this type of drill bit. This part is called “gauge” This part is, in my opinion, it is the weakest part of this kind of bit (roller cone bit). So, manufacturers come up with means to reinforce (gauge area) strength There are many ways, they do (reinforce gauge area strength) The easiest way is to weld (this area) with tungsten carbide. covering this area (with welded tungsten carbide) So that it becomes abrasive resistance. or, for some tougher application such as drilling very abrasive formation , or sand paper like.

They use higer abrasive material, such as special kind of tungsten carbide or polycrystalline diamond or PDC (artificial diamond). They drill holes, and embed (PDC) in these holes. You may see these little round shaped PDCs around here. some are tungsten carbide some are PDC

Then, These teeth that have round shapes , actually they can be many shapes and many kinds. Let’s look at them closely. There are many shapes and kinds.

In general, if it is a round shape, the bit drills not so fast but the bit is tough and durable. It is suitable for drilling hard formation that takes time to drill.
It is not fast but very durable, and last long.

The the teeth has sharper look, like cone shape, like this or chisel shape the bit can drill faster. Certainly, drilling faster, teeth dull quicker. Dull quicker, (bit) life is shorter.

For roller cone bit, they should be all for now, let me look at my note what else is left not mention. OK. There should not be anything else..

We have discussed everything. Let’s close the session with a brief note.
Very brief, we see that One thing that roller cone has a unique feature. It has what we call moving part, which is moving per say.

We can see that it can move. Engineering principle says that if thing can move , or vibrate, it has opportunity to fail or go wrong (as compared to static of the same kind) or has shorter life. or higher chance to have problem, which is a reason that later on we have another kind of drill bit that has fixed cutters. , like this one.

We can see there is no moving part. The next clip, we will explain and introduce this type of drill bit, pro and con as compareed to the conventional type , roller cone bit, this type. well, hopefully, you all have
some knowledge or a bit of inside about this type of drill bit.
